Approve the outdoor unit’s winter location with its installation manual and the site plan together. Ask the installer to address snow, drainage, falling roof material and access as one arrangement.
Look above and below the proposed unit
An empty patch beside the wall may look convenient in summer. In winter, the same position might sit below a steep roof edge or beside the path everyone uses. Mark those relationships before agreeing the location.
Ask the installer to explain the unit's defrost operation and where resulting water is intended to go. Have them show how that arrangement follows the manufacturer's instructions under local freezing conditions. Do not add improvised covers, drains or heaters.

The table is a review method, not a clearance specification. Required distances and support details depend on the selected equipment and the applicable installation requirements.
Ask who maintains the route
For a remote cabin, name the person who checks the area after significant weather. Decide what can be observed safely from the ground and what needs the service contractor.
An alert from a remote thermostat can tell you that indoor temperature is falling. It cannot establish whether the cause is snow exposure, a fault, an outage or a control setting.
Keep the commissioning record
Ask the installer to record the final model, location, support, drainage arrangement and relevant manual revision. Include photographs before landscaping or decking hides access.

Put those records in the project checklist. Coordinate the location with snow falling from an A-frame roof and remote thermostat planning. A well-sized heat pump still needs a workable place to operate and be serviced.
